The "Kulikov" antenna (Kulikov whip, “flexible whip”, “kulikovka”) is designed for use with portable and mobile radio communication equipment. It is named after its inventor, Sergey Alekseevich Kulikov.
The Kulikov antenna is a flexible whip antenna consisting of a flexible steel cable threaded with aluminum coils. One end of the cable is fixed in the antenna base, and the other end is soldered to the top coil of the antenna. In the operating position, the cable is tensioned. Due to the action of a compressed spring shock absorber, the coils are pressed tightly together, forming a flexible, stable vertical whip. The antenna can be folded by releasing the cable tension via a hinge. Once the tension is released, the antenna can be shaped into any configuration suitable for storage or transportation. The Kulikov antenna is used in the military and in vehicle-mounted radios of various services.
