Tuya valve actuator: power supply and voltage

The actuator is powered by a 220 V > 12 V adapter (current no less than 1 A). Powering from an external 12 V source (battery/car battery) is permitted provided polarity is observed. To power several actuators simultaneously, use a power supply rated at 1 A per actuator.

Actuator power connector

Standard DC connector 5.5 x 2.1 mm; certain batches may include 5.5 x 2.5 mm. Refer to the device/adapter labeling for confirmation.

Consumption and autonomy with Wi-Fi/Zigbee

The Wi-Fi version consumes more power in standby; the Zigbee variant is more energy-efficient (suitable for autonomous power) but requires a Zigbee gateway.

Network connectivity and apps

The Wi-Fi version connects directly to the router and is controlled via Smart Life/Tuya/Digma Smart Life. The Zigbee version requires a compatible Tuya Zigbee gateway; control is also via Smart Life/Tuya.

Operation without the internet and local scenarios

The Wi-Fi version executes scenarios through the cloud: without internet access, notifications and automations are unavailable (manual control via the button/lever remains). Zigbee devices can operate locally through a hub; details depend on the chosen ecosystem.

BLE (Bluetooth) in the actuator

BLE availability and capabilities depend on the version. In several modifications, BLE is used for local control within range and/or for simplified app onboarding; automations and remote access require internet or a hub.

Voice assistants

Supported: Alice, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa (via account linking to Smart Life/Tuya). Trigger-based scenarios from a leak sensor are not created on the Alice side; use scenarios in Smart Life. Native support for Mi Home and Apple HomeKit/Matter is absent.

Scenarios and automation

Smart Life offers timers, schedules, countdown, and "if/then" scenarios (for example, "if a leak sensor is triggered — close the valve"). You can link multiple sensors to one actuator or several actuators to a single event.

State on power-on

Settings allow you to choose behavior after power restoration: open, close, or retain the previous position.

On-device indication

The LED indicates the device’s connection/activity and can be disabled in settings (if such an option is provided).

Manual control

A mechanical "pin"/release is provided: pull the latch — the valve handle is freed for manual opening/closing.

Valve compatibility and diameter

The actuator is designed for ball valves with a long lever handle. A "butterfly" handle is unsuitable without modification; conversion to a long lever is required. The recommended maximum diameter is up to 25 mm with a serviceable (non-seized) valve.

Operation types and rotation angles

Two positions only: fully "Open"/"Closed". Intermediate control (e.g., 30–70%) and control of three-way valves are not supported.

Installation and placement

Surface mounting (strap included). Installation on polypropylene valves is acceptable if a long lever is present/with bracket adaptation. Outdoor installation requires protection from precipitation and direct sunlight (place under a canopy); typical operating temperature up to +40 °C.

Dimensions and projection from the pipe

Approximate enclosure dimensions 65–70 x 65–70 x 65–70 mm; projection from the pipe about 80–85 mm including the bracket.

Gear materials and torque

The primary gearbox gears are metal; auxiliary plastic elements may be present. Torque is sufficient for standard ball valves in normal condition of the shut-off unit.

Leak sensors: types and quantity

Compatible sensors: Tuya/Smart Life (Wi-Fi or Zigbee — according to your system version). Wired sensors cannot be connected directly to the Wi-Fi actuator; use an app scenario. Multiple sensors can be linked to one actuator (OR logic in the scenario).

Status display in the app

Smart Life shows the current actuator state ("open/closed") and the command history; grouping of several actuators is available.

Operation with hot water, heating, and gas

The actuator is intended for cold/hot water ball valves and may be used in heating systems subject to temperature and installation requirements. For gas, only a ball valve with a long handle and proper installation is acceptable; observe local safety regulations.

Linking with other ecosystems

Mi Home and Aqara are not supported directly; integration is possible via compatible gateways/bridges or Home Assistant (for advanced users). Compatibility depends on the specific hub and firmware.

Leak sensor (Wi-Fi): power and service life

The sensor is battery-powered; indicative operating life is up to one year and depends on cell type, link quality, and temperature. When triggered it emits a local sound and sends a notification via the internet.

Scenario activation delays

The valve-closing delay upon sensor trigger depends on internet quality/cloud routing. To minimize delays, use stable Wi-Fi or a Zigbee setup with a local hub.

Power connector and cable length

A cable with a DC plug exits the actuator housing; the length depends on the batch and may be about 2.1 m (verify in the kit specification).

Support for multiple actuators and groups

The app allows adding several actuators, grouping them, and controlling them synchronously. Powering multiple actuators from one supply is allowed if current is sufficient and wiring is correct.

Timer operation without the cloud

The Wi-Fi version stores and executes schedules through the cloud; if the internet is disconnected, schedules will not run. In some versions, an action upon power-on is available (e.g., auto-close without cloud participation).

Individual limitations and recommendations

Do not use the device in rain without a canopy. Do not attempt to connect wired sensors directly to the actuator. Before installation, make sure the valve is serviceable and that its handle meets length and shape requirements.

Supported Wi-Fi bands for the Tuya actuator

Only the 2.4 GHz band is supported; 5 GHz is not supported. For stable connectivity, use a router’s standard mode and ensure the SSID/password do not contain non-standard characters.

Reset and re-adding the device

To enter pairing mode, perform a reset: hold the button for about 10 s until the indication changes, then add the device in the Smart Life/Tuya app.

Firmware update (OTA)

Firmware updates are performed from the Smart Life/Tuya app when internet is available. Do not switch off power during the update.

Enclosure protection rating

Some modifications specify protection up to IP65. For outdoor installation, place the unit under a canopy to protect from precipitation and direct sunlight.

Angle calibration and intermediate positions

The actuator operates in two end positions "Open/Closed" with a 90° turn. User calibration and fixed intermediate positions are not supported.

Bluetooth (BLE) connectivity in the Wi-Fi+BLE version

BLE is used for quick onboarding and local short-range control. Remote access and automations require the internet (Wi-Fi) or a hub (for the Zigbee version).

12 V power requirements

Supply — 12 V DC; recommended power-supply current — from 1 A per actuator. Observe polarity when connecting external sources.

Local logic and actuation delays

Local scenarios are available with Zigbee + gateway; delays are minimal. In the Wi-Fi version, scenario execution depends on cloud availability and internet-link quality.

Status indication

LED indication signals pairing mode, connectivity, and command execution. In certain versions, disabling the indication in settings is available.

Working with multiple sensors

Several leak sensors can be bound to one actuator via scenarios in Smart Life/Tuya. A trigger from any sensor can close the valve (OR logic).

Direction of travel and behavior after power loss

The rotation direction is fixed by the valve design. Parameters allow selection of the action after power restoration: open, close, or retain the previous position.

Operating limitations

The device is intended for ball valves with a long handle; a "butterfly" handle is unsuitable without modification. The shut-off unit must be serviceable and rotate freely without sticking.

Actuation time and noise level of the Tuya actuator

A full 90° turn takes approximately 5–10 s and is accompanied by short mechanical noise. The exact value depends on the batch and valve condition.

Overload and stall protection

The actuator features torque limiting: when the threshold is exceeded, the motor stops. Regularly check that the ball valve turns freely to avoid protective shutdowns.

Operating temperature and humidity

Operation is permitted at positive ambient temperatures (refer to the datasheet; typically up to +40 °C) and moderate humidity. For outdoor use, provide protection from precipitation and direct solar radiation.

Use with hot water and heating

The actuator is suitable for hot-water ball valves and heating circuits, provided the device’s operating temperature is observed and the installation point is properly insulated.

Application on a gas pipeline

Permissible only with a ball valve featuring a long handle and subject to local safety regulations. Installation must be performed by a qualified specialist.

Extending the power cable

Extending the 12 V line is allowed when using a quality cable of appropriate gauge and observing polarity. For long runs, account for voltage drop.

Cleaning and care

Wipe the housing with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasives; prevent water ingress into the enclosure.

Lubrication and valve maintenance

Lubrication and maintenance pertain to the plumbing valve, not the actuator. Before installation, ensure the valve turns without sticking; service the valve if necessary.

State retention upon link loss

In the event of internet outage, the actuator retains its current position. Local manual control is available regardless of connectivity.

Notifications and event log in the app

The Smart Life/Tuya app displays the "open/closed" state and command history. Push notifications depend on account settings and smartphone permissions.

Integration with Home Assistant

Wi-Fi versions are often integrated via the official Tuya integration; Zigbee versions — via a compatible gateway. Available functions depend on models and firmware.

MQTT and local API support

Native local MQTT/API is typically not available; control is performed via the Tuya cloud or a Zigbee hub. Local control capabilities depend on the selected ecosystem.

Time-based automation modes

Schedules and timers are available. In the Wi-Fi version, execution depends on the cloud; in a Zigbee setup, scenarios can run locally on the hub.

Safety during installation

Disconnect 12 V power before any work. Secure the actuator and strap without skew; avoid cable tension.

Compatibility with third-party leak sensors

Operation with sensors is possible through the app/hub when the Tuya/Smart Life protocol is supported. For other ecosystems, use cross-platform scenarios or integrations.

Fail-safe scenarios

Settings provide an option for the action after power restoration (e.g., auto-close). This is recommended for leak protection when mains power returns.

Mounting orientation

Install the actuator to prevent water from wicking along the cable into the enclosure. Preferably — horizontal, with manual access to the latches.

Use with three-way valves

The actuator is intended for two-position control of a ball valve (90°). Three-way and mixing valves are not supported.

Pairing with a "hidden" SSID

Adding the Wi-Fi version may be difficult with a hidden network name. It is recommended to temporarily make the SSID visible during pairing.

Coordinated operation of multiple actuators

Create groups in Smart Life/Tuya for synchronous control of multiple valves. When powering several actuators simultaneously, consider the total current.

Child Lock function on the Tuya actuator

Some versions provide a software "child lock" that disables response to local buttons. Availability and activation method depend on the model and firmware; check settings in Smart Life/Tuya.

Hardware buttons and their functions

Typically, a forced open/close button and a hidden reset button are provided. Short/long press combinations are defined by the manufacturer and listed in the device manual.

Decoding LED indications

Typical states: rapid blinking — pairing mode; infrequent blinking — no network; steady light — connected. Exact indication patterns depend on the version.

Torque and a "stiff" valve

The actuator is designed for a standard ball valve with serviceable hardware. If elevated torque is required, protection is triggered; service or replace the valve to avoid incomplete travel.

Compatibility with metal and plastic valves

Installation on brass and polymer valves is permissible if a long lever is present and a flat mounting area exists. Ensure mounting rigidity with the standard strap or an adapter.

Wireless range

Wi-Fi: coverage depends on the router and obstructions; for stability use 2.4 GHz. Zigbee: the range is shorter, but the network supports mesh via repeaters/outlets.

Operation under frequent power outages

The valve position is held mechanically. Behavior after power restoration is configurable (open/close/retain), if the firmware provides this option.

Automatic closing upon loss of contact with a sensor

The standard scenario does not initiate actions when a sensor is unavailable. Implement a protective scenario at the hub/app level (for example, by a timer of missing events) if the platform supports it.

Delay and debounce scenarios for a leak sensor

It is recommended to add a filtering delay (1–3 s) in the scenario to avoid false triggers caused by brief electrode contact.

Local logs and diagnostics

The app displays command history and connection statuses. Advanced logs and event export depend on the app version and integration (for example, via a gateway/HA).

Installation in a niche or cabinet

Ensure access to the mechanical release and reset button, as well as ventilation for the 12 V power supply’s heat dissipation.

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)

The power supply and electronics comply with household EMC standards for indoor installation. Avoid routing the power cable adjacent to high-load power lines.

Moisture protection for the cable entry

For outdoor installation, form a drip loop on the cable (a loop below the entry) and use a cable gland/seal in accordance with the enclosure’s protection class.

Software malfunction and recovery

In case of abnormal response, perform a full power cycle: disconnect 12 V for 10–15 s, then, if necessary, repeat a reset and re-add the device in the app.

State synchronization across multiple control points

The actuator state is synchronized in the app and with voice assistants via the cloud/hub. Minor discrepancies are possible during temporary link loss.

Switching-cycle limitations

Frequent open/close cycles are acceptable within reasonable limits; the device is not intended for throttling flow or prolonged operation in a "regulation" mode.

Installation on large-diameter mains via adapters

Permissible if a long handle and rigid mounting base are present. Ensure the actuator torque is sufficient for the specific valve; use reinforced solutions if necessary.

Power from a UPS and backup sources

Powering from a 12 V UPS is allowed provided polarity and current are observed. For multiple actuators, calculate total load and autonomy, including inrush currents.

Condensation triggering a sensor

Condensation can cause false triggers. Place the sensor on a dry surface and use intermediate stands/spacers for ventilation.

Duplicating sensors and control zones

Create multiple zones with sensors under each potential leak source (sink, washing machine, manifold) and combine them in a single valve-closing scenario.

Manual emergency bypass

If necessary, release the mechanical lock and turn the valve handle manually. After manual intervention, return the latch to the working position for automation.

Updates across different accounts

For OTA updates, use the same Smart Life/Tuya account to which the device is linked. Transferring between accounts may require a reset and re-adding.

Access from multiple smartphones

Provide access via "Family/Home" in the app. Participant rights (view/control/edit scenarios) are configured by the home owner.

Limitation on external load control

The actuator drives only its own motor and is not intended to switch external loads. Connecting external devices to its circuits is prohibited.

Testing leak-protection scenarios

Periodically perform a control test: short the sensor electrodes for a few seconds and verify auto-closing and notifications. Dry the sensor after the test.
