FAQ on Using the T-PASS Avtodor Transponder
Purpose and Operation
What is a T-PASS transponder and how does it work
The T-PASS transponder is a transceiver for nonstop toll payment on toll roads. When passing a Toll Collection Point (TCP) or a Free-Flow gantry, the fee is debited from the personal account linked to the device.
Do I need to top up the transponder itself or the personal account
Funds are stored in the personal account. A new transponder is sold with a zero balance; top-ups are made by the user via the Avtodor web personal account or the mobile application.
Is there a subscription fee for using the device
There is no separate subscription fee for the device itself. Paid options and tariff conditions may apply on the side of the road operator if you activate them.
Compatibility and Coverage
On which roads does the transponder work
The device supports payment on the main highways of the Avtodor State Company (M-1 “Belarus”, M-3 “Ukraine”, M-4 “Don”, M-11 “Neva”, M-12 “Vostok”, A-113 Central Ring Road) and on a number of roads within the inter-operator interoperability system (including the WHSD in Saint Petersburg and the MSD). For other operators’ roads, interoperability must be enabled in the personal account.
Does it work on the WHSD in Saint Petersburg and on Bagration Avenue
Yes. With interoperability enabled, the transponder is accepted on the WHSD and on the Northern Kutuzovsky Avenue Bypass (Bagration Avenue).
Is T-PASS suitable for the M-12 “Vostok” and the A-113 Central Ring Road
Yes. The M-12 and the Central Ring Road use a barrier-free Free-Flow system—debiting occurs automatically when passing the gantries.
Can one transponder be used for several vehicles
Yes. The device is not tied to a specific vehicle. It is important that only one active transponder is present and readable in the car at any given time.
Registration and Applications
How to register and activate the transponder
Register the device in the Avtodor personal account or in the mobile application, specify the transponder number and the personal account, and top up the balance. After activation, the device is ready for use.
How to enable interoperability (inter-operator use)
Enable the service in the Avtodor – Toll Roads personal account or visit a sales and service center. Without activating interoperability, discounts and passage on other operators’ roads may be unavailable.
The iPhone app is unavailable in the App Store—how can I manage the account
The Avtodor app for iOS may be unavailable for installation from the App Store. Use the web version of the personal account or alternative app stores, or continue using an already installed app—removal is not recommended.
Installation and Operation
Where to mount the device and how to ensure proper reading
Mount the transponder on the inner side of the windshield behind the rear-view mirror using the standard holder. The area must be free of tint and of any metallized (athermal) coating.
Will it work through window tint, an athermal film, or a heated windshield
Tint and heater filaments usually do not interfere when mounted in the clear “window” behind the mirror. Athermal film shields radio signals—use the special uncoated area near the mirror.
May I mount the transponder on the back of the mirror or on a magnet
Do not change the orientation or the mounting method. Install it in the holder with the adhesive side to the glass as specified in the instructions; otherwise, reading failures may occur.
How to remove the holder from the glass
Gently pry the holder with a thin plastic card and remove it when the glass temperature is above +20 °C—the adhesive releases more easily.
Power and Indication
What is the battery service life and can it be replaced
The power cell is non-removable; the typical operating life is approximately 5–7 years. When discharged, the device is not repaired and must be replaced with a new one.
Are there audible signals when passing a toll point
Yes, the transponder emits a short beep upon successful reading at a toll plaza/gantry.
Account and Details
Where can I find the personal account number and the PAN number
The personal account number and the PAN are indicated on the insert in the box and/or on the device label. They can also be found in the personal account or via Avtodor support.
How to top up the personal account
Log in to the Avtodor personal account or app, select “Top up account,” and pay by bank card or another available method.
Can I link a new transponder to an existing personal account
Yes. Use the “Transponder transfer” service at a sales and service center or follow the instructions in the personal account of the personal account holder.
Identification
Is the transponder personalized
By default, the device is not personalized. Personalization is performed during registration—this enables access to the loyalty program and detailed trip history.
Specifications
What are the device dimensions
The device dimensions are approximately 70 x 40 x 8 mm (without the holder); with the holder—approximately 70 x 40 x 12.5 mm.
Who is the manufacturer and where is the production date indicated
Manufacturer: Avtodor – Toll Roads. The country of manufacture and the production date depend on the batch and are indicated on the packaging and/or encoded in the serial number marking (format YYWWNNNNNN).
