Anti-FUNGUS (Anti-MILDEW, FUNGUSPROOF) Function in Air Conditioners: Purpose, Operating Principle, and Usage Procedure
General Purpose of the Anti-FUNGUS Function
The Anti-FUNGUS function (“Mold Protection”) is designed to prevent mold and fungal growth on internal components of the air conditioner, primarily on the indoor unit’s heat exchanger. The humid environment remaining after operation in cooling or dehumidification modes promotes microorganism proliferation and unpleasant odors. To eliminate this issue, the unit performs an automatic purge of the indoor section after shutdown.
Operating Principle of Anti-FUNGUS Mode
The mode is activated by pressing the Anti-FUNGUS or “DRY” button on the remote control when the air conditioner is off. When enabled:
- The “Anti-FUNGUS” indicator appears on the remote display.
- Activation is confirmed by a series of audible signals: five beeps acknowledging the command, followed by additional confirmation beeps.
- After the air conditioner finishes operating in cooling or dehumidification mode, the indoor fan continues running for three minutes at low speed. The louvers remain in the position corresponding to the last active mode.
During this period, the heat exchanger surface and internal cavities are dried, removing excess moisture and preventing mold formation and odors.
Activation Procedure
To enable the Anti-FUNGUS mode:
- Ensure both the air conditioner and the remote control are turned off.
- Point the remote control at the indoor unit.
- Press and hold the Anti-FUNGUS button.
- Wait for the confirmation tone sequence (five beeps followed by additional confirmation beeps).
Once activated, the mode will automatically function after every subsequent shutdown, provided the unit is not disconnected from the power supply.
Deactivation Procedure
The Anti-FUNGUS mode can be disabled in two ways:
- Disconnecting the air conditioner from the power supply.
- Pressing and holding the Anti-FUNGUS button on the remote when the air conditioner is off.
Deactivation is also confirmed by audible signals: five beeps acknowledging the command, followed by three beeps confirming deactivation.
Operational Notes
During Anti-FUNGUS operation, it is not recommended to turn the air conditioner on before the purge cycle is complete. Premature activation may interrupt the drying algorithm and reduce mold protection efficiency. The mode is not factory-enabled and must be activated manually.
The Anti-FUNGUS function is an effective tool in combating microbiological contamination of internal air conditioner components, ensuring both extended equipment lifespan and improved hygiene of the indoor air environment.
