GEN function for limiting air conditioner power

GEN, GENERATOR, GENERATOR MODE Function on the Air Conditioner Remote Control

Purpose and Features of GEN, GENERATOR Mode

The GENERATOR mode (limited power mode) is designed for operating an air conditioner with an unstable or restricted power source. This function is particularly relevant when connecting the unit to autonomous energy sources, including gasoline or diesel generators. Applying the limited power mode helps prevent network overload and improves the device’s operational reliability.

Operating Principle and Levels of GENERATOR Mode

Activating the GENERATOR mode limits the operating current of the compressor and other internal components of the air conditioner. This reduces the overall load on the power network. Within this mode, there are three operating levels, each determining the degree of power limitation:

The power level is selected manually via the remote control.

Activating and Deactivating GENERATOR Mode

To activate the limited power mode, press the GEN button on the remote control. The current power level will be displayed. Pressing the GEN button repeatedly switches levels in the following sequence: OFF (disabled) → L3 → L2 → L1. To exit the mode and return to standard operation, select the OFF position.

Some air conditioner models may combine the ECO/GEN button to enable both the energy-saving function and the power limitation mode, depending on the control unit design.

Functional Limitations and Compatibility

The GENERATOR function is an additional option and may be absent in certain air conditioner models. Availability depends on the device’s technical specifications and its compatibility with different power sources. Before use, refer to the technical documentation of the specific equipment.

The limited power mode may be unavailable when automatic operation or dehumidification modes are active. It also does not affect other device functions, including airflow direction, fan speed, and air purification.

Safety and Operational Recommendations

Using the GENERATOR mode is recommended in conditions of unstable power supply to minimize the risk of overloading the electrical circuit. However, prolonged operation in this mode may reduce the efficiency of cooling or heating due to power limitations. Avoid continuous use in L1 or L2 mode unless necessary.

If the air conditioner shuts down automatically or the display malfunctions, check the electrical network parameters and restart the system in standard mode. Press the GEN button briefly, avoiding long presses, to prevent electronic malfunctions.
