Heater operation — general instructions

1. Any claims will be considered by Webasto only if there is no evidence of non-compliance with this Manual and the installation instructions, or of work carried out on the heater by non-Webasto-certified specialists, or of the use of non-original spare parts.

2. The year of first commissioning must be marked on the factory nameplate by erasing the other year markings.

3. Standard operating conditions for automotive equipment must be observed. In particular, do not subject the heater or its components to immersion in water, mechanical impact, high temperatures (above +85°C), humid air (above 95%), corrosive substances, electrical discharges, etc.

4. Due to the risk of poisoning and suffocation, the heater must not be operated (including by programmable timer or remote control systems) in enclosed spaces (e.g., garages) unless they are equipped with exhaust ventilation.

5. At filling stations, as well as in locations where flammable vapors and dust may form (near fuel, coal, grain storage facilities, etc.), the heater must be switched off.

6. In case of heavy smoke, unusual noises, or the smell of fuel from the heater, it must be disabled by removing the fuse and checked at a Webasto service center.

7. Only the fuel indicated on the heater’s factory plate may be used (gasoline for gasoline heaters, diesel fuel for diesel heaters). Fuel and additives must comply with applicable standards, including for operation at low temperatures.

8. The coolant level in the circuit must comply with the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications. The coolant must contain at least 20% antifreeze grades approved by the vehicle manufacturer.

9. The heater should be switched on once a month for 10 minutes with a cold engine and the vehicle fan at minimum power; it is also recommended to have it inspected at a Webasto service center once a year, no later than the start of the heating season.

(!) To avoid discharging the battery, do not switch on the heater several times in a row for a total of more than 60 minutes. After heater operation, the engine should run for at least the same amount of time as the heater.

Depending on the configuration, the heater is controlled using a timer or the Telestart remote control system (see the descriptions below).

The heater can operate in "winter" (heating) or "summer" (ventilation) mode. In heating mode, the heater warms the coolant in the vehicle’s liquid circuit, its circulation pump pumps it through the engine and the vehicle’s heating radiator, and the control unit automatically starts the vehicle’s heating fan. In ventilation mode, there is no warming or circulation of the coolant; only the vehicle’s heating fan runs to ventilate the cabin. See below for mode switching. At the factory, the heater is set to heating mode.

If the heater is in heating mode, set the vehicle heating system to "warm" before switching the heater on. If the vehicle heating fan has three stages, set its controller to stage 1; if it has four stages, set it to stage 2; if the fan power is continuously adjustable, set it to at least 1/3 of full power.

Using the Webasto Telestart T70/T80 remote control

With the Webasto Telestart T80, the following can be controlled remotely at distances up to 600 m: Webasto heating devices Thermo Top, Thermo Top T, Thermo Top Z/C, and Thermo Top E, or the vehicle fan.

The Telestart T80 provides confirmation of signal reception.

To activate the vehicle fan (ventilation of the vehicle interior), the transmitter mode must be changed. After activation, the operating duration is limited by the receiver with the transmitter being used.

Maximum range is achieved in open terrain. In built-up areas, a reduction in range should be expected.

Elevated terrain can increase the range.

(!) Attention!
When pairing the transmitter and when switching the heater on/off in heating or ventilation mode, the transmitter must be at least 2 m away from the antenna (otherwise, due to an excessively strong signal, the heater may be locked). If this is not possible, cover the transmitter with your hand!

.

Pairing (teaching) the Telestart transmitter

Telestart T70/T80 pairing procedure — battery installation, fuse handling, button sequence

1. Insert the batteries into the battery compartment.

2. Remove the 1 A (black) fuse from the heater’s fuse holder (power interruption).

3. Wait at least 5 seconds.

4. Reinsert the fuse into the heater’s fuse holder and, within 5 seconds, press and hold the transmitter’s OFF button for at least 1 second.

5. Pairing is complete.

Pairing a second or third handheld transmitter is performed in the same manner.

(!) NOTE:
The pairing process may be repeated as often as needed. The oldest transmitter data currently stored will be overwritten.
