INTRODUCTION

Description of the Wireless N WiFi Repeater

Thank you for purchasing the Wireless N WiFi Repeater range extender. The wireless range extender is the ideal solution for boosting Wi-Fi signals and eliminating “dead zones.” A stronger wireless signal means you stay connected longer and reduce your 3G / 4G mobile data usage. A stronger wireless signal also ensures higher wireless connection speeds over a wider area.

Enjoy lag-free online gaming or stream Full HD video. The WiFi range extender is fast and simple to set up.

LAN port

The wireless range extender is equipped with a high-speed LAN port, which you can use to connect your computer for initial setup if your wireless router does not support WPS—for example, Verizon FIOS® routers. You can use the included Ethernet cable for this purpose, or any standard Cat5 or higher Ethernet cable. If you are unsure, don’t worry—any standard Ethernet cable purchased from retailers or online stores will work.

WAN/LAN port

If you configure the wireless range extender in Access Point (AP) mode, you must connect your ISP’s modem to this port.

WPS button

Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a computer standard that allows you to easily establish secure wireless connections to a home network. Created by the Wi-Fi Alliance and introduced in 2007, the protocol is designed to help home users who may have little knowledge of wireless security configure WPA2 encryption and simplify the process of adding new devices to an existing network without typing long passphrases.

If your wireless router is relatively modern, it is likely equipped with a WPS button. In that case, you can add the wireless range extender to your network in just a couple of minutes. If your router is older and does not support WPS, you will need to configure the extender using your web browser. While this takes a little more time, the procedure is also straightforward.

Reset button

To restore the device to factory default settings, press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds while the device is powered on.

Power socket plug

The wireless range extender plugs directly into a wall socket. It supports 110V / 60Hz for U.S. outlets and 230V / 50Hz for European outlets. The plug type will vary depending on your location. The illustration above shows the EU version.

INSTALLATION AS A WIRELESS RANGE EXTENDER

The Wireless N WiFi Repeater can be installed in one of two ways. The first method uses WPS, while the second (manual method) uses a traditional setup process. Both methods achieve the same result; the only difference is that WPS is more convenient if your router supports it.

INSTALLATION USING WPS

If your wireless router has a WPS button (sometimes labeled N-connect), you can connect the wireless range extender to your network by pressing just two buttons. Follow these steps:

Wireless N WiFi Repeater WPS setup
Step 1:

Plug the wireless range extender into a wall socket. Choose the location of the wall socket carefully. Make sure you are close enough to your wireless router so that the signal remains strong. If you are too far away and the signal is already weak, performance will suffer. Use a wireless device to check the signal strength at the planned installation location.

(!) Note:
If the signal strength is below 60%, move closer to the wireless router.

Step 2:

Wait about 60 seconds to allow the wireless range extender to complete its startup procedure. Make sure the power indicator is lit.

Step 3:
Wireless N WiFi Repeater router WPS button

On your router, locate and press the WPS button.

(!) Note: The illustration shows the location of the WPS button on a G-Tech wireless router. On other routers, the WPS button may be in a different location. If you cannot find it, skip this section and proceed with manual setup.

Step 4:

Within two minutes after Step 3, press and hold the WPS button on the wireless range extender for five seconds. This will start the WPS connection process. The process may take up to one minute. While connecting, the WPS LED will blink. Once complete, the WPS LED will remain on.

Step 5:

Use a wireless device (smartphone or laptop) to connect to the Wi-Fi network. You need to connect to the same Wi-Fi network as before, since the Wireless N WiFi Repeater retransmits the existing network, including the SSID and security (e.g., WPA2 key).

(!) Note: If you want to change the SSID of the extended wireless network, you can do so in the admin settings using any standard web browser. See the “Configuration Options” section for more information. If you encounter issues with the WPS Push Button setup, even if your router supports WPS, proceed with manual setup as described in the next section.

MANUAL INSTALLATION

If you need to set up the Wireless N WiFi Repeater manually, you will need the following:

• You must know the name of your wireless network (SSID).
• If your wireless network is protected with an encryption key, you must know the password. This is the same password you enter on your laptop or tablet when first connecting to the network.
• A desktop or laptop computer running Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, or Linux, with a standard web browser (Firefox, Safari, Chrome, or Internet Explorer).
• A standard Ethernet cable; for example, the cable included with the Wireless N WiFi Repeater.

Step 1:
Wireless N WiFi Repeater manual setup step 1

Connect the Wireless N WiFi Repeater to your computer using the included Ethernet cable. Power on the computer and wait for it to finish booting. Make sure the LAN indicator on the range extender is lit.

Turn on the repeater by plugging it into a power outlet.

Step 2:
Wireless N WiFi Repeater manual setup step 2

Open your web browser and enter the WiFi repeater’s setup IP address 192.168.10.1 into the address bar and press Enter. In the login window, enter “admin” as the username and “1234” as the password, then click "OK".

(!) Note: If the login window does not appear, your computer’s network adapter IP settings may be incompatible with the repeater.

Step 3:
Wireless N WiFi Repeater manual setup step 3

After logging in, you will see the admin panel screen. On the left, click Setup Wizard. Select the “Repeater” mode and click Next.

Step 4:
Wireless N WiFi Repeater scanning for networks

Wait while the repeater searches for available networks. This process may take up to one minute.

Step 5:
Wireless N WiFi Repeater select network

The Wireless N WiFi Repeater will display all wireless networks in range. If you live in an apartment building or a densely populated area, this list may be extensive. Once you identify your home wireless network name, select it.

Step 6:
Wireless N WiFi Repeater enter WiFi password

On this screen, enter the wireless encryption key required to connect to your home wireless network. You don’t need to worry about selecting the correct encryption type, authentication mode, or cipher— the repeater fills this automatically. Enter your wireless network password in the “Security Key” field. Make sure the password is entered correctly. You may enable the “show password” option to display it in plain text.

In the field below, you can enter the SSID (wireless network name). You can use the same name as your home WiFi (e.g., “Manhattan”), but it is often better to change the SSID so you can quickly tell apart your home network and the repeater’s network. In this example, we add “24RP” to the name for distinction. When finished, click “Apply”.

Step 7:

If everything goes well, you will return to the main screen. The setup is complete.

Step 8:
Wireless N WiFi Repeater new network available

In the list of available WiFi networks, you will now see your original wireless network “Manhattan” and the newly created repeater network “Manhattan24RP”. You can connect to “Manhattan24RP” and enjoy improved signal strength.

Wireless N WiFi Repeater enter security key

Enter your wireless network’s security key, then click “OK” to connect.
