UHF (ultra high frequency). Glossary of radio communication terms and abbreviations

UHF (ultra high frequency) radio frequency range. Frequencies from 300 MHz to 3 GHz. In relation to radio stations, this refers to the use of frequencies from 400 MHz to 512 MHz.

Band UHF is considered an “urban” band and shows its best performance in conditions of dense urban development. The wavelength in this range is comparable to or smaller than the average size of the reinforcement grid in reinforced concrete structures. Therefore, the signal passes through dense urban areas without significant attenuation. Choosing walkie-talkies of this frequency range is optimal when reliable communication is required over short distances, for example, within city limits. Even when using portable radio stations, stable communication is achieved with a minimal number of dead zones. For open terrain, UHF is not very convenient, as the radio waves in this range do not bypass terrain irregularities well and suffer significant attenuation in forested areas.
