Manual — OneTouch Select Blood Glucose Monitoring System
Actions before performing the test
Before you begin using this device to determine blood glucose levels, carefully read this manual, as well as the package inserts for OneTouch® Select® test strips and the OneTouch® Select® control solution. Pay special attention to all warnings and precautions in this manual, marked with the symbol (!). Many people who are performing a blood test for the first time find it useful to practice first with the control solution. See Section 6, “Checking meter performance using the control solution.”
Intended use of the system
The OneTouch® Select® Blood Glucose Monitoring System is intended for the quantitative measurement of glucose (sugar) levels in fresh whole capillary blood. The OneTouch® Select® system is for use outside the human body (for in vitro diagnostics) and helps monitor the effectiveness of diabetes treatment. The system may be used by people with diabetes at home for self-monitoring, as well as by healthcare personnel to monitor the effectiveness of diabetes control measures in patients within healthcare facilities. This system is not intended for diagnosing diabetes or for measuring blood glucose in newborns.
Principle of the test
Glucose contained in a drop of blood undergoes an electrochemical reaction with the enzymes on the test strip, producing a weak electric current. The current varies in proportion to the glucose concentration in the blood sample. The meter measures the current, calculates the blood glucose level, displays the result on the screen, and stores it in memory.

Turning the meter on
The meter can be turned on in two ways.
To perform a blood glucose test, insert a test strip into the port until it stops. The meter will perform a brief self-check and then the display will turn on.
The second method is as follows:
If the meter is off, press and hold "OK" for two seconds to enter the MAIN MENU.
Make sure the screen turns completely black for two seconds. If this occurs, the meter is operating correctly. If the meter does not turn on, try replacing the battery. See “Replacing the battery” in Section 7.
Turning the meter off
The meter can be turned off in several ways.
• Press and hold the "OK" button for three seconds.
• The meter automatically turns off after two minutes of inactivity.
• Enter the MAIN MENU and use the ▲ or ▼ button to select TURN METER OFF, then press "OK".
• Insert or remove a test strip before or after performing a test. If you navigate from the result screen to the MAIN MENU using the button, removing the test strip will not turn the meter off. In that case, turn the meter off using one of the three methods listed above.
