Frequency grid spacing. Standards of frequency channel spacing for radio transceivers

Frequency grid step (STEP (Frequency step)) – the minimum frequency difference between adjacent operating channels or the minimum tuning increment of a radio transceiver's operating frequency. Frequencies in radio equipment can be set with a discrete step, which in modern communication devices may be 2.5, 5, 10, 12.5, 20, 25, 30, or 50 kHz.

For example, in the frequency band CB, the channel spacing is 10 kHz; in LPD; in VHF (136–174 MHz range) – 12.5 or 25 kHz; in PMR – 6.25 kHz.

During frequency scanning, the receiver sequentially tunes with the programmed channel spacing, pausing on each frequency to check for the presence of a signal.
