8°C HEATING Standby Heating Function in Air Conditioners
Purpose of the 8°C HEATING Function
The 8°C HEATING standby heating function is designed to automatically maintain indoor air temperature at a minimum level of about 8°C. It is used when occupants are temporarily absent, to prevent room overcooling, freezing of water pipes, and damage to interior finishes or other elements.
Operating Conditions and Principles
The function operates only when the air conditioner is in heating mode. Once activated, the indoor unit automatically starts heating when the indoor temperature drops below 8°C and continues until it reaches about 18°C, after which the unit enters standby mode.
During operation, fan speed is automatically set to minimum or medium (AUTO), depending on the unit’s algorithm. While maintaining the temperature, setpoint adjustment and fan speed changes are unavailable to ensure stable and energy-efficient operation without user intervention.
Activation and Deactivation
To enable the function, switch the air conditioner to heating mode, then press and hold the SWING and TEMP buttons simultaneously for about 2 seconds. A corresponding indicator will appear on the remote display.
To disable the mode, press any button on the remote except ON TIMER, OFF TIMER, CLOCK, and SWING. The function will stop, and the unit will return to standard operation.
Activation is possible only when the air conditioner is off and in standby mode. The mode is not available for cooling-only models.
Technical Features
Standby heating mode is optional and not available in all models. Availability depends on the software and technical configuration of the unit. After pressing the button combination, even if the function is unsupported, the indoor unit may emit a confirmation beep.
When active, the unit can maintain stable compressor operation despite low outdoor temperatures, provided regular and correct defrost cycles are performed. Power consumption in standby mode is significantly lower compared to full heating mode.
Advantages
The 8°C HEATING mode is effective for country houses, cottages, technical rooms, attics, warehouses, and other spaces where only basic heat maintenance is required. It reduces energy consumption, prolongs equipment lifespan, lowers the risk of accidents, and minimizes the need for user intervention.
Modern control algorithms ensure that short-term room overcooling is avoided even during defrost cycles. Heating and pause periods are balanced to maintain set temperature without excessive heat loss.
Real-World Usage Features
In practice, the 8°C HEATING mode keeps the indoor temperature at a stable minimum. At night and during outdoor temperature drops, the system automatically engages heating using limited compressor capacity. Even during brief defrost cycles, the indoor thermal balance remains stable.
This mode is often combined with heat pump technology, which further improves efficiency in low outdoor temperatures.
