Control Lock Function "LOCK" in Air Conditioning Systems
Purpose of the "LOCK" Function
The "LOCK" function is implemented in air conditioning systems to prevent unauthorized or accidental changes to settings via the remote control. It serves as an access restriction measure, especially in households with children or when operating the device in public or administrative spaces. Activation of the lock disables the possibility to change operating modes, temperature, fan speed, and other parameters.
Operating Principle and Activation Methods
Activation of the
function is performed by simultaneously pressing and holding a specific combination of buttons on the remote control. Common combinations in various remote models include:
- Simultaneous pressing and holding of the "+" and "–" buttons for several seconds.
- Combination of the "Set" button and another control key (e.g., mode switch).
After activation, a lock icon
appears on the indoor unit or remote control display. All remote buttons, including the power on/off button, become inactive. Repeating the same button combination unlocks the device and restores control
.
Remote Control Design Features
To improve ergonomics and prevent accidental activation, buttons responsible for locking and resetting settings have distinct designs. They may be recessed relative to other keys or equipped with additional protection against unintended pressing. The "LOCK" button can be separate or implemented as a button combination. In some models, a "RESET" button allows resetting user parameters and restoring factory settings but is not directly related to the locking function.
Indication and System Behavior
When the lock function is enabled, a special symbol appears on the screen. Any attempt to press other buttons is ignored until the lock is disabled. All current operating parameters are preserved, and the air conditioner continues functioning in the selected mode without changes.
Application Area
This function is particularly useful in homes with small children, as well as in rooms with limited access to climate control settings. It reduces the risk of accidental shutdown, temperature changes, or activation of unwanted functions. It also prevents system malfunctions caused by pets or during cleaning activities.
